With the holidays coming into full swing, you are probably preparing your home for a large intake of family. Getting your home clean before the family gets there can, at times, become overwhelming. There are a lot of things to get done before Christmas hits and cleaning your home may be the last thing on your list. But you don’t want to rush through and have a half-cleaned house. Here are 7 Christmas cleaning tips for smoother holidays:
Gathering Areas
Focus most of your energies on areas where people will gather, instead of trying to clean the entire house top to bottom. Your kitchen, living room, dining room, and guest bathroom should be your primary focus. Bedrooms and the upstairs should get a quick sweep through, but not a deep cleaning like the aforementioned rooms.
Declutter
Like many people, your home probably has a lot of clutter laying about. An easy way to remove all the clutter is to take empty laundry baskets and move through different rooms and quickly fill the basket with items that don’t belong in that room, like dishes, magazines, toys, clothes, etc. Put these items back to where they belong.
Freshen the Bathroom
Give the bathroom counters a wipe down, remove any extra items that aren’t necessary, scrub the toilets, take out the trash, sweep the floors, and make sure you have stocked up on toilet paper and hand towels. It’s also a good idea to add some air freshener to keep your bathroom smelling nice.
Make Room for Coats and Bags
Guests coming over mean that you will have extra coats, bags, and shoes. There’s nothing worse than these items cluttering up your freshly cleaned house. To avoid this, designate an area for all coats and bags like a spare bedroom or hall closet.
Quick Dust
Working from the top of the room down, quickly move through every room with a duster. A simple, quick dust can take care of most things, but watch out for any spills or rings that need to be wiped up.
Clean the Floors
Cleaning your floors is a must, especially if you have animals. With animals, hair can be everywhere! If you have wood or tiled flooring, give it a good sweep and then a good mopping. If you have carpet, give it a deep vacuuming. A steam cleaning may be in order if you have some carpet stains.
Set the Table
A large part of the holidays is spent sitting around the dining table eating. To get prepared, add setting up the table to list of cleaning to-do. Get a new, non-stained tablecloth, some festive placemats and napkins, and maybe a holiday centerpiece. Once the dining room is ready, you no longer have to worry about it.
