Your living room is the place to be lazy. It’s close to the kitchen for snacks. It has a TV and a comfy couch. It’s easy to let things pile up and become messy. Seeing the living room so messy can make relaxing a nonrelaxing experience. Not this year! Keeping the living room clean in 2017 is going to be a rewarding decluttering experience. If there isn’t a place for something in your home, then it shouldn’t be in your home. Keep this in mind as you clean and declutter your living room.
No Clothes Clutter
Your living room is not your bedroom and it is certainly not your laundry room. Your socks, underwear, jackets, and other clothing items have no business just hanging out in the living room if you’re not wearing them. Most people relax in the living room without shoes, but you shouldn’t kick them off and leave them there. Put them where they belong. Once one item of clothing finds its way to hanging out in the living room, others will follow.
Read and Leave
Magazines and books can quickly pile up in the living room because it’s such a comfortable reading space. Once you finish a magazine, don’t set it on the coffee table, take it to the recycling. If you’re reading a book, take it back to your bedroom with you when you’re done reading for the night.
Basket Organization
Keeping things organized in your living room can be as simple as getting a basket for things. Remotes are often hard to find as they tend to get lost in the couch. With a basket, all your remotes can be in one place and easy to find for next time. You can also get baskets for pillows, blankets, and DVDs. Each group of items should get their own basket to make finding what you need that much simpler.
Commit
The easiest way for keeping the living room clean in 2017 is to commit to a daily routine. If you fall behind and let the clothes or reading materials pile up, you will find yourself with a big cleaning chore. You can avoid the big hassle by doing small things every day.
