Oftentimes when we’re cleaning our house, we forget to clean out the refrigerator. But, keeping your refrigerator clean actually helps to save you money. First, when you know exactly what’s inside, you’re better able to raid your refrigerator for snacks and meals. Second, you’ll waste less food because you’ll eat more of it before it goes bad. Plus, you’ll make a more accurate grocery shopping list which means you’ll no longer have to worry about discovering three tubs of cream cheese in your refrigerator after you’ve already
bought the fourth one.
The key to keeping a clean refrigerator is cleaning it out before you leave the house for the grocery store each. By cleaning it out weekly or every other week, it will stay organized and clean.
Here are the steps to take to clean your refrigerator.
First, gather a clean, soapy dish cloth, a dry dish towel, and bring the trash can nearby. Also, have your soapy water ready in the sink, so your dirty dishes can soak while you’re cleaning out the fridge.
Second, start by discarding old food. Begin on the top shelf and work your way down. Either throw away entire containers, or empty the contents into the nearby trash receptacle, and then place the containers in the sink. Wipe up any spills you come across, but wipe the shelf off even if there aren’t any spills. Use this time to organize your remaining items. Move on shelf by shelf until you get to the bottom shelf.
Next, clean out the drawers. Empty the deli trays and the produce bins completely so you can clean them out. Once you’ve wiped the drawers, dry them with the towel. Once you’ve done that you can refill the drawers with meat and vegetables.
You’re almost done at this point. Now you’re going to wipe down the doors, the edges of the doors, and the outside of the refrigerator. Don’t forget to wipe off the top of the fridge.
The very last step is to wash the dirty dishes you created when you cleaned the refrigerator. Clean them before you leave for the grocery store as well. There’s nothing like coming home to a dirty sink.
The whole process from gathering your equipment to washing the dishes should take no longer than 10 or 15 minutes each time you do it. If you stay in the habit of cleaning out the fridge before each grocery trip, you will always have a clean refrigerator. And, then you won’t be embarrassed when you call your local Sarasota house cleaning company for help.
