Your smart devices pretty much go wherever you go, especially your phone. Do you know how many germs they can pick up along the way? A lot. There have been studies that have shown your phone carries more germs than a toilet. How disgusting is that? And you’re pressing your phone, and all those germs, to your face on a daily basis. Knowing how to safely clean your smart device will help you minimize the amount of germs and reduce your chances of getting sick.
Regular Wipe-Down
It may seem trivial, but you should get into the habit of regularly wiping down your smart devices. You should do it as often as possible. Antibacterial wipes are the way to go. You can buy technology-specific wipes, or you can use regular antibacterial wipes. The only thing is, with regular antibacterial wipes, you have to be careful about skin contact. Remember, you’re putting these devices to your face. You want to make sure you aren’t using a cleaning product that will cause harm to your skin. You can also make your own cleaning mixture with half white vinegar and half tap water.
Q Tips and Toothpicks
The wipes will get a majority of the germs, but it only gets the big, visible part of your devices. There are cracks and crevices in your phone that can collect just as much bacteria as the wide, flat surface. You can use the toothpicks to dig into the crevices and remove any gunk that has collected. You can use the Q tips dipped in cleaning solution to really clean things like the camera, speaker, and around any buttons on your smart device. Be thorough, but also be gentle, especially with the toothpicks. You don’t want to accidentally scratch something.
Don’t Forget the Headphones
Many people forget about their headphones when cleaning their smart devices. Don’t. Your headphones go everywhere your device does and they can collect a lot of bacteria, as well. While your phone goes to your face, your headphones go inside your ears. You don’t want that bacteria getting inside your ears. Plus, being in your ear, they collect your earwax which isn’t all that pleasant to look at. Cleaning your headphones is simple. Just use a damp cloth with some mild dish soap to wipe them down in their entirety. If your headphones include silicon covers, you can remove them and scrub them with a toothbrush. Wait for your headphones to completely dry before using them again.
