It’s happened to all of us. You’re cooking on the stove, transferring food to different pots, pans and plates, and something falls right between the oven the cabinet. Usually this cabinet gap is tiny, but that still means food particles, crumbs and bacteria can make their way in and get stuck. Aside from pulling the oven out and cleaning around it thoroughly, which can be difficult and sometimes impossible, there are a few other ways you can keep your oven and cabinet gap clean.
Get Creative
First, check out the size of the gap. Then look for a kitchen utensil that can easily slide between, like a spatula or butter knife. Grab some paper towels or a dish towel and dampen in. Cover the utensil with the towel and insert it in the back of the gap as close to the wall as possible. Slowly slide the tool towards you. To prevent debris from falling to the ground, tilt the tool slightly up towards you as you slide it. Repeat in all gaps, shaking off the towel in the sink between passes. Once you’ve cleaned all the gaps, cover the towel in a cleaning solution, preferably one with vinegar. Slide it through the gaps again and put a little more scrubbing effort in to release any stains and liquid spills.
Close the Gap
Once the gaps are clean, you don’t want to have to repeat this all the time! Try to find something you can insert in the gap to prevent spills and drips next time you cook. Something called a Kleen Seam does just this, but there are other products out that can accomplish the same goal. Or make something yourself using weather stripping (ideal because it’s flexible and durable, and usually comes in different colors), plastic tubing, foam masking tape.
Of course, you could also just call HouseMaids for a deep clean. Every time we clean we make sure to get all appliances, including the oven and cabinet gap. Call us today at (941) 953-4300 to get a custom estimate and schedule a cleaning.
